EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Intersect360 Research surveyed the High Performance Computing (HPC) user community to complete its eleventh Site Census study. The study is a look at their
current computer system installations, storage systems, networks, middleware, and application software supporting these computer installations. This
report provides a detailed examination of the storage systems installed at a sample of High Performance Computing (HPC) user sites. Our goal in this
analysis ofHPC system suppliers is to examine the installations by supplier and to examine supplier penetration by sector and by region within the
HPC user community.

Fifty-two named suppliers were reported in our surveys. DDN, Dell EMC, and IBM are the top providers for all reported storage systems, including for
large (petabyte or more) storage systems. These three suppliers represent almost 43% of all systems reported. HPE, the number four overall supplier,
received the most mentions in Asia/Pacific and for storage systems with capacities less than 500 TB.
HPC storage capacity continues to increase at our surveyed sites. In four years, the amount of storage capacity reported in our studies has almost
doubled. The share of petabyte storage systems has grown from about 30% in our 2015 study to almost 50% of the reported systems in our 2018 study.
